The second visit of the season to Thruxton in Hampshire and the penultimate race weekend of the series saw Jack Bartholomew secure his third pole position in a row on Saturday for Sunday’s Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge race.
With two races planned on Sunday in front of the huge crowd, Bartholomew lined up on the grid for race 1. As the lights went out Bartholomew was side by side off the line and through the first three corners with the championship leading #54 car but as they exited turn four Bartholomew was nudged back to second place. Bartholomew stayed on the back of the leading car and continued to challenge for the lead over the next 15 laps never dropping below 0.8 seconds behind the leader. As the leading duo started their final lap Bartholomew had closed the gap to 0.3 seconds and mounted his final challenge for the lead when the car suddenly broke traction and pitched Bartholomew backwards heavily into the concrete pit wall.
With heavy damage to the car and Jack in some pain he was first assessed in the car by the medics and then taken to the medical centre. After assessment he was subsequently transferred to Basingstoke Hospital for precautionary X-rays to his back. Later in the evening he was given the all clear by the doctors and released.

“I’m really disappointed to end the weekend like that, we had a really good car and I was confident of taking the lead on the last lap. My championship challenge has taken a big knock losing out on the points, there is a lot of damage to the car and I’m pretty sore, but I’m ok which is the main thing. A big thank you to the marshals and medics that attended to me and to the team”.
The final round of the championship will be at Donington Park on the 16th & 17th of October
